A Drive Form (ドライヴフォーム Doraivu Fōmu?) is a transformation for Sora in Kingdom Hearts II. It uses the power of one of Sora's party members to use abilities otherwise unavailable to Sora. The first is unlocked after Sora speaks to Flora in the Wardrobe of the of The Mysterious Tower.

Story[edit | edit source]

Upon speaking to Flora, the Three Good Fairies grant Sora new clothes. They then give him a Drive Orb, which gives him the ability to transform, and use a Sub-weapon. They mention that Sora's garments have other special powers, though he'll have to discover what they are throughout his journey.

Inspecting the room further reveals six[1] mirrors, one for each Drive Form. Each mirror grants Sora a vision of using said Drive Form.

Mechanics[edit | edit source]

Using Drive Forms grant Sora powers he otherwise couldn't learn normally, such has wielding two Keyblades, improved magic, improved speed, improved attacks, or new abilities. While in a Drive Form, ground combos, air combos, action abilities, and growth abilities are completely overwritten with a unique move set. Support abilities carry over from Sora's normal form, and some more support abilities are added to Sora's move set while using that Drive Form. Any abilities that are unique to Drive Forms cannot be unequipped. In forms where Sora can wield two Keyblades, the weapon ability and stats of a second Keyblade also carry over. Some Drive Forms change the mechanics of some of Sora's magic spells, such as making Thunder's strikes wider, or increasing the amount of Blizzard's ice crystals.

Drive Forms also change the appearance of Sora's clothes during gameplay, often centered around a particular color and symbol. Save for Antiform, cutscenes will also display the Drive Form Sora was in before that cutscene activated. The only exceptions are Xemnas' Agenda, and A Box of Memories. This is due to Limit Form, the only Drive Form available to Sora during the battle of 1000 Heartless, being added to Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, and the cutscenes after not being adjusted accordingly. Cutscenes that do display Drive Forms will not display any visual effects or movement differences that Drive Forms normally display. Also, any Drive Forms that can dual wield won't display the sub-weapons.

Upon entering any Drive Form, Sora's HP and MP will be fully restored. If Sora is riding a skateboard while in a Drive Form, he won't revert back to his normal form until he dismounts or transitions into a new room. Other than attacking enemies or picking up Drive Orbs, Sora can replenish his Drive Gauge a few different ways:

  • entering into a room where party members are walking around while in a Drive Form
  • warping to the World Map while in a Drive Form
  • entering and exiting into Underdrome cups that allow the use of Drive Forms
  • getting transformed into a Die or Card

List of Forms[edit | edit source]

Final Form (ファイナルフォーム Fainaru Fōmu?) is the final of Sora's Drive Forms, which unleashes the Keyblade's true power. Unlike obtaining other Drive Forms, Final Form is obtained through a small chance of luck while attempting to turn into a different Drive Form. Final Form turns Sora's clothes turn white and a white wave decorates the sleeves and front of the pants. Using this Drive Form costs 5 Drive Gauges and the use of any two party members until Sora has reverted back to his original form. Sora gains the ability to wield two Keyblades, and float across the ground, which is faster than running in his original form. For each Nobody defeated in Final Form, 1 point of experience is gained. Antiform (アンチフォーム Anchi Fōmu?) is a Drive Form that is side-effect of using too much power. Sora gains the ability to transform into Antiform at the same time he obtains Valor Form in Mysterious Tower. Antiform is the only Drive From that cannot be activated intentionally, and is instead a side-effect of using Drive Forms too often. It can be triggered when attempting to transform into any Drive Form other than Final Form. Antiform makes Sora's skin, hair and clothes turn black and blue, and blue demonic symbols are shown on the sleeves and front of the pants. His hands turn into claws, and his eyes turn a bright yellow and round, similar to the eyes of the Heartless. Turning into this Drive Form costs all of Sora's Drive Gauges and the use of any two party members until Sora has depleted the Form Gauge and reverted back to his original form. Unlike other Drive Forms, Antiform can't be levelled, since there's nothing to gain from going into Antiform.
