Square Enix and Disney today announced that the entire Kingdom Hearts series will soon be available on the Nintendo Switch. The announcement was made by Super Smash Bros. Ultimate creator and director Masahiro Sakurai as part of this morning's presentation for the final DLC fighter character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, in which Sora was announced to be joining the game.[1] The announcement also marks the beginning of the series' 20th Anniversary celebration.[2]
Unlike previous ports of the series, however, the games will be available on the Nintendo Switch via cloud streaming. The exact details are still unknown, but we know the collection will include the following:
- Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX Cloud Version
- Kingdom Hearts Final Mix
- Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories
- Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days HD Remastered Cinematics
- Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix
- Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix
- Kingdom Hearts Re:coded HD Remastered Cinematics
- Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue Cloud Version
- Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind (DLC) Cloud Version
The titles will be purchasable individually or together in one package, called the Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece.
The release of these titles on the Nintendo Switch marks a significant milestone in the series' history. For the first time ever, the series will be available on every currently-supported major platform. The series has previously been released in its entirety for the PlayStation 4 in 2017; for the Xbox One in 2019;[3] and for PC via the Epic Games Store earlier this year in March.[4]
The release date for the cloud streaming versions of the games is expected to be announced at a later date. Let us know if you'll be getting the series on the Nintendo Switch!
