Passion (Piano Duet) | 0:09 - 0:14 0:36 - 1:07 |
"Dearly Beloved" by Yoko Shimomoura "Musique pour la Tristesse de Xion" by Yoko Shimomoura |
"Keeping with the tradition set by our first volume LIGHT, weâve taken Utada Hikaruâs renowned âPassionâ and recreated it for dueling pianos. Within this dense arrangement, youâll find brief nods to different character themes, soaring statements of different âDearly Belovedâ variations, and a unique solo taken by each performer." |
Future Masters | 0:36 - 0:46 1:52 - 2:02 |
"Future Masters" by Yoko Shimomoura "Fate of the Unknown" by Yoko Shimomoura |
"Beginning with lighthearted instrumentation and frequent key-hopping, 'Future Masters' is our first introduction to the three heroes from Birth By Sleep. With nods to each of their character themes and culminating to a confrontation with the minor variation of this melody, 'Master, Tell Me The Truth', 'Future Masters' speaks to the growth and the hardship that the Wayfinder Trio faced throughout their journey.'" |
Ventus | 0:15 - 0:26
0:26 - 0:30 |
"The Key" by Yoko Shimomoura "Destati" by Yoko Shimomoura |
"Our take on âVentusââthe broken boyâis one that tells his story with subtle references to several other themes from Birth By Sleep scattered throughout the arrangement. He is Xehanortâs Key, after all. The piece proceeds with variations on Ventus with different instrumental groups waxing and waning in-between the piano, violin, and oboe focal point that carry the melody. Ultimately, the piece culminates to a frenzied oboe solo that leads directly to the finale of the piece, echoing Venâs desperation to save his friends and put a stop to Vanitasâ threats." |
Aqua | 0:24 - 0:26
1:10 - 1:13 |
Baton tap? "Kairi" by Yoko Shimomoura |
"Aqua is a strong, yet somber, character in Birth By Sleep--although she is given the honor of being named Keyblade Master, she arguably suffers the most out of the Wayfinder Trio. This arrangement explores Aqua's despair during the events of 0.2 while making subtle nods to her memories of her friends. String clusters, brass bends, and nontraditional percussive elements help to give the listener a sense of the frustration Aqua must have felt while trapped in the Realm of Darkness." |
Sweet Spirits | 0:13 - 0:19 |
"Dearly Beloved" by Yoko Shimomoura |
"A brief interlude for the listener: âSweet Spiritsâ is our take on the original Dream Eater menu theme from Dream Drop Distance.
Arranged as a muted orchestral ballad with a heavy piano feature, the piece recalls memories of caring for those colorful companions." |

22. The 13th Struggle | 0:00-0:41 2:39-2:48 |
"13th Struggle" by Yoko Shimomoura "Roxas" by Yoko Shimomoura |
"The 13th Struggle" is arguably the most famous of Organization XIII's battle themes, and while it represents more than a handful of conflicts, it's been unofficially regarded by fans as Axel's personal character theme.
Our arrangement takes you through his story in Kingdom Hearts II while giving brief glimpses of the motives that fueled him - beginning with his final, futile attempt at preventing Roxas' death, to embracing his own in order to save Sora - and, by extension, what was left of his best friends. |
12. Lord of the Castle | 0:00-0:37 0:37-1:02 |

17. Cavern of Remembrance | 0:05-0:15 0:24-0:32 |
"Namine" by Yoko Shimomoura "Musique pour la tristesse de Xion" by Yoko Shimomoura |
Our arrangement of "Cavern of Remembrance" makes ample use of the cavernous setting by presenting us with the opportunity to play with echoey choir and woodwinds.
By removing the percussion from the original track, we felt it gave the piece slightly more depth. Quotes from various Organization members make an appearance later on, as well as a statement from one of the members that truly deserved her own data battle in the "Deep Anxiety" portion of the track. |
