- Kingdom Hearts III wins award for excellence at the Japan Game Awards 2019
As the year of Kingdom Hearts III heads into the final months, award season begins. On September 12th, Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry hosted their annual Japan Game Awards. This year's awards covers games released between April 2018 and March 2019, so it's not exactly for the year 2019, but it covers just enough of 2019 to make Kingdom Hearts III eligible, and it won! The title was named one of eleven titles to receive the Award for Excellence at the awards. Per the Ministry's press release:
The newest installment in the Kingdom Hearts action RPG that is popular globally. New characters include those from Frozen and Big Hero 6 as well as Toy Story and Monsters, Inc., first appearances by Pixar.
The Grand Award at the show went to Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which released in December 2018. The title actually won multiple awards at the event. Interestingly, even Nintendo's Labo won a Special Award.[1]
With the year wrapping up soon, awards shows are already being announced. This week, Geoff Keighley also announced the dates for this year's The Game Awards, set for December 12 at Microsoft Theater. Will we see Kingdom Hearts III there? Let us know what you think!
