After nearly 6 years, Square Enix today announced that Kingdom Hearts Union χ Dark Road will be coming to an end. Specifically, Kingdom Hearts Union χ will be ending on April 30, 2021 in Japan, and on May 30, 2021 globally. At that time, the game will be updated and will become largely unplayable. The story will be viewable in Theater Mode only, and players will be able to customize their player avatar and change Keyblades, but the playable quests, medals, and events will no longer be available.
Kingdom Hearts Dark Road, on the other hand, will end in September. However, it will not be available after the update in April/May. An app update, verion 5.0, will become available in late September, and will include the final two chapters in the story for Kingdom Hearts Dark Road. Unlike Kingdom Hearts Union χ, Kingdom Hearts Dark Road will still be playable, including story and battles, card albums, and crafting. However, the game will be entirely offline at that time.
The announcement details further information on how the app will work after the conclusion of Kingdom Hearts Union χ's story.
Series director Tetsuya Nomura also expressed gratitude for participation in Kingdom Hearts Union χ over the last five and a half years, and hints towards the "not so far-off day when [he] can meet you all again."
