Kingdom Hearts: VR Experience is a ten-minute interactive virtual reality video developed by Square Enix and Sony Interactive Entertainment. It allows viewers to relive some of the most iconic scenes in the Kingdom Hearts series in virtual reality, and potentially unlock content simply for viewing the video.

Story[edit | edit source]

The video is made up of several interactive scenes that can be selected from a main menu.

The first, titled simply "Gummi Ship", shows the events of "2.9 - The First Chapter" from Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage- and ends with a Gummi ship sequence through a tunnel featuring scenes from Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, and Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories. The second video, titled "Destiny Islands", shows events from the scene "The Outside World" from Kingdom Hearts, and ends with scenes from the opening from Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.

Development[edit | edit source]

Kingdom Hearts: VR Experience was first announced at the PlayStation Line-Up Tour on September 12, 2018.[1] In addition to featuring scenes from throughout the Kingdom Hearts series, it was announced it would also feature two songs from the 2018 performances of the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra -World Tour-.

The video was set to launch in the winter of 2018. On December 10, 2018, Sony announced the video would arrive on December 25, with a free update on January 18, 2019.[2] However, the release was delayed twice, first to January 18[3] and then to January 23, 2019.[4]

Kingdom Hearts: VR Experience launched on January 23, 2019 in Japan. It was released on March 1, 2019 in the United States.

The first update to the title, set to feature worlds like Olympus Coliseum, is set to arrive on July 24, 2019 worldwide.[5]
