- There's no official word on the Kingdom Hearts series titles coming to PlayStation 5, though it's anticipated they will be
One of the biggest difficulties in gaming, particularly in a series like the Kingdom Hearts series, is that as the series goes on, past titles get left behind on previous generation consoles. Kingdom Hearts, for example, was officially unplayable outside of the the PlayStation 2 console until the release of Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX in 2013 on the PlayStation 3. But, it looks like that won't be the case, at least for the upcoming generation of consoles.
As the next generation of consoles prepare to launch in November, Microsoft has quietly the updated the Microsoft Store listings for Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX,[1] Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue,[2] Kingdom Hearts III,[3] and Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory[4]. All four titles now have a tag noting that the games have been optimized for Microsoft's upcoming Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles, ensuring that fans will continue to be able to play the Kingdom Hearts series on the newest consoles. The exact details of the upgrades are unclear, though its unlikely to feature significant changes to any of the games. Microsoft had said months ago that they would be working to ensure a good chunk of its game catalog across its Xbox history would be playable on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
At this time, there's no official word on whether the series is coming to PlayStation 5. However, Sony has already said, in broader terms, that a good chunk of its PlayStation 4 titles would be playable on its next-generation console, so the series is anticipated to be available there. Let us know if you're planning on buying the series for the next generation!
