Fishin' Frenzy is a minigame available through the Classic Kingdom in Kingdom Hearts Union χ and Kingdom Hearts III. In the game, Sora and Mickey try to catch as many fish as possible without being attacked by bigger fish in the lake or having their line broken by floating debris.
Fishin' Frenzy is based on Walt Disney’s 1931 animated short "Fishin' Around".
Gameplay[edit | edit source]
The objective is to guide Sora and Mickey’s boat and line so that they can catch fish and score points, while avoiding the bigger fish that come from behind the boat, as well as the floating signs in the lake that can break the line. The fish closer to the surface of the lake are worth less points than the fish towards the bottom of the lake. After getting a certain amount of points, you move on to the next level, where fish in the lake and the larger fish move faster, requiring a faster response time.
The points for each fish are listed as follows:
Fish | Points |
---|---|
10 points | |
20 points | |
40 points | |
80 points |
Each level ends when you get a certain amount of total points per game, as follows:
Level | Goal (total points) |
1 | 70 |
2 | 180 |
3 | 310 |
4 | 470 |
5 | 920 |
Fishin' Frenzy was one of the games introduced in Classic Kingdom in Kingdom Hearts Union χ, and was part of the challenge to receive the Starlight Keyblade for Kingdom Hearts III. In order to qualify, one must achieve a cumulative score of 7500 in the mingame.
Origin[edit | edit source]
"Fishin' Around" is an animated short released on September 25, 1931 as part of the Mickey Mouse series of cartoons. In the cartoon, Mickey and Pluto go fishing on a lake, ignoring the "No Fishing" sign, but are unsuccessful. Instead, the fish mock their efforts, and Pluto even tries to chase them underwater causing a bigger fish to chase him. Finally, a police officer catches Mickey fishing and begins to chase them both.
