Episode 3: Twilight is the third cutscene in a five-part video summary of the story of the Dark Seeker Saga. It is made available from the Kingdom Hearts III Main Menu after the Dive to the Heart tutorial is complete. Narrated by Chirithy, it summarizes the story of Roxas and Xion during their year in Organization XIII.

Roxas and Xion both join Organization XIII without a single memory. Despite being Nobodies, however, they begin to care deeply for each other and fellow member Axel. Their time together quickly comes to a close when they learn the truth about Xion: she is a puppet created to seize Sora's power, the power of the Keyblade. The trio's friendship is soon strained and then pulled apart: both Roxas and Xion leave the Organization despite Axel's pleas and warnings; Roxas and Xion ultimately end up in fierce battle against each other; and Xion is defeated, left to fade away in Roxas' arms.

"Xion (track)" begins to play.
A red book floats on screen. A Nobody emblem is embossed on the cover's center. Embossed above the emblem is the title "TWILIGHT". Below the image are the embossed words "The Story So Far" and, on the line below, "KINGDOM HEARTS III". Chirithy runs onto screen and around the book, while a title in white fades in across the scene:

Chirithy spins on one leg and poses with an arm in the air. The camera zooms in on the padlock on the side of the book, the keyhole of which begins to glow blue as Chirithy starts to narrate.
Chirithy: "Think now, for a moment,"
The book opens and the pages flip before settling on a page featuring a dark watercolor of Roxas and Xion in their Organization cloaks. Xion's hood is pulled up, but Roxas' is down.
Chirithy: "about your best friend."
The camera zooms in on the title below the picture. It reads:
KINGDOM HEARTS
The Halves Who Longed to Be Whole
And Whose Hurt Still Runs Deep
Chirithy: "Someone you couldn't bear to lose."
The camera pans across to the next page, which has two lines of text in its center:
One of them is half of Sora. The other is gradually absorbing Sora's memories.
Roxas: "For the seven days since my arrival..."
The page turns and on the next page we see the same image, but this time with only Roxas present. The camera zooms in on the image and the image becomes a cutscene. The shot of Roxas standing in darkness fades to black, then we fade back in on him looking downtrodden as he is being led through the Castle That Never Was.
Roxas: "the name Roxas and the number thirteen were all I had."
The camera zooms out and the cutscene turns back into a picture in the book. We pan across as the book flips many pages and then zoom in to the image of the Twilight Town clock tower on the next page. Roxas and Axel are sitting on its ledge, watching the sun set and eating sea-salt ice cream.
Chirithy: "His mind a blank slate, Roxas starts counting the days, determined to never forget anything again. He and his friend Axel go on missions for the Organization."
Roxas: "Today makes 255. It's been that many days since I first joined the Organization."
Axel: "So, you got the number memorized, do you?"
We return to the book, many page turns, and then zoom in on a picture of Xion standing in the castle, her hood drawn.
Chirithy: "They are soon joined by the group's fourteenth member, a girl named Xion. Like Roxas, she has no memory of her past."
Roxas looks down at Xion from atop his seat in the Round Room. Xion looks up at him and smiles.
Xemnas: "Let us all welcome one of the Keyblade's chosen."
We return to the book, many page turns, and then zoom in on a picture Roxas, Axel, and Xion eating ice cream on the clock tower.
Chirithy: "The three have been told they don't have hearts—that they're "Nobodies"—and yet it's strange. They start to realize how much they care about each other."
Xion: "Axel...does that mean you and I are friends, too?"
Axel: "Well, if you're friends with Roxas, then yeah, of course you're my friend."
Chirithy: "If only all of this could last forever..."
We return to the book, many page turns, and then zoom in on a picture of Roxas standing in the castle.
"Vector to the Heavens" begins to play.
Xion: "Just give me another chance!"
Roxas looks up to a higher walkway to see Xion approaching Saïx.
Saïx: "We can't afford to take any more chances on you."
Xion runs past Roxas down the stairs.
Saïx: "You were a mistake we never should have made."
We return to the book, many page turns, and then zoom in on a picture of Roxas, Axel, and Xion sitting on a tree in Destiny Islands.
Chirithy: "Xion's darkest secret..."
Xion: "Is it that I'm not supposed to exist?"
We flash to Roxas and Axel talking in the castle.
Axel: "Xion is a puppet, created to duplicate your powers."
We flash to the Round Room, where all Organization members are seated. The camera pans across their faces.
Chirithy: "...is that she only exists to seize control of Sora's power—the Keyblade's power."
Xemnas: "Both of them have connections to Sora, but we only need one of them."
We return to the book, many page turns, and then zoom in on a picture of Roxas and Axel talking in the castle.
Roxas: "You mean...they have to destroy her?"
Axel sighs and looks away.
Roxas: "Answer me!"
Axel: "Roxas, if somebody doesn't...then you won't be you anymore."
Roxas gasps. We return to the book, many page turns, and then zoom in on a picture of Xion sitting curled up in her room.
Chirithy: "If they really have no hearts,"
We return to the book, a page turn, and then zoom in on a picture of Roxas and Axel standing in The World That Never Was streets.
Chirithy: "then why does the truth hurt this much? The grief..."
Roxas strolls past Axel. Axel shouts after him.
Axel: "You can't turn on the Organization. You get on their bad side, and they'll destroy you!"
Roxas barely glances over his shoulder as he replies.
Roxas: "No one would miss me."
Axel deflates.
Axel: "That's not true. I would."
We return to the book, a page turn, and then zoom in on a picture of Axel standing outside the Old Mansion.
Chirithy: "The anger..."
Axel gasps. Xion stands in front of the mansion gates, her Keyblade drawn.
Xion: "Please don't hold back, Axel. Promise."
Axel grunts, throws his arms up, and hunches over to yell:
Axel: "What's your problem?! You both...think you can do whatever you want."
Axel straightens up.
Axel: "Well, I'm sick of it. Go on, you just keep running."
Axel summons one of his chakrams.
Axel: "But I'll always be there to bring you back!"
We return to the book, a page turn, and then zoom in on a picture of Roxas standing on the clock tower.
Chirithy: "The loss..."
Xion: "You're next, Roxas. I have to make you a part of me, too."
Xion is revealed to be floating across from Roxas, her hood completely hiding her face. She lifts her hand and slithers of darkness begin to surround her.
Xion: "Don't you see?"
The camera zooms in on Xion's face to show her sneer.
Xion: "This is why I was created."
We return to the book, a page turn, and then zoom in on a picture of Roxas kneeling at the base of the clock tower, Xion cradled in his arms.
Chirithy: "The emptiness..."
Xion is fading away into bright shards of light. She smiles up at Roxas.
Xion: "See you again. I'm glad...I got to meet you."
Roxas watches her hand disappear within his grasp. He looks up, watching horrified as more of her floats away.
Xion: "Oh...and of course, Axel, too."
Tears slide down Roxas' cheeks.
Xion: "You're both my best friends."
We're back at the book, on an image of the trio sitting on the clock tower. Splashes of water land on the Xion part of the image, and slowly she fades from it altogether.
Xion: "Never forget. That's the truth."
We zoom out to see the image in full, now showing only Roxas and Axel. Below the image is a line of text:
Will they find the hearts they seek, or only heartbreak?
The book closes and spins around to show us the front cover. The padlock locks itself.
Chirithy: "But I believe there's hope for them. Don't you? One day they'll be together again."
The screen fades to black.
