Master Form (マスターフォーム Masutā Fōmu?) is the second to last of Sora's Drive Forms in Kingdom Hearts II, which handles both the Keyblade and magic. Sora gains Master Form after speaking with King Mickey at Hollow Bastion's second visit.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

While in most worlds, Master Form turns Sora's clothes turn yellow and a yellow saltire decorates the sleeves and front of the pants. Sora's hands glow, as two bolts of yellow electricity zap around the Keyblade in Sora's right hand and a yellow, sparkle-filled orb surrounds Sora's left. When stagnant, Sora spins his primary Keyblade in behind him, while his secondary Keyblade floats and spins in front of him. When jumping, Sora crosses the Keyblades in front of his forehead with the primary Keyblade in front. While moving, the sparkles trail behind him.

In Halloween Town, Sora's clothes remain unchanged aside from the pumpkin mask. The mask is a stitched together Red Bomb, and Black Mage design, symbolizing Master Form as the fusion between Valor Form and Wisdom Form.

In Christmas Town, the back of Sora's coat and Santa hat gain a yellow saltire. [KH II FM]

In Space Paranoids, Sora's circuit lights glow a yellow instead of blue.

In Timeless River, Sora doesn't change appearance, but his health icon gains a yellow tint.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

In Master Form, Sora has the ability to wield two Keyblades, jump twice, and run much faster than in his original form. Unlike other drive forms, Master Form doesn't have a ground combo, so his only combo is aerial based.


His combo consists of three parts:

  • The first part is a two-hit combo, consisting of Sora swinging his first Keyblade counterclockwise, followed by him swinging his second Keyblade clockwise before landing. He descends slightly during this attack.
  • The second part makes Sora does a front flip with Sora swinging his Keyblades underneath him. He ascends slightly during this attack.
  • The third part is a finisher that depends if Sora is surrounded by multiple enemies.
    • If there are multiple enemies, Disaster will pull in enemies in a Magnet Burst-like attack.
    • If there is only a single enemy or no enemies, Master Strike triggers, and several cross-slashes strike around Sora.
  • Using the Air Combo Plus abilities allows Sora to repeat the first two parts of the combo. Note that Master Form already comes with two Air Combo Plus abilities, meaning the first and second parts in an aerial combo will happen twice without negative combo abilities.
  • Using a Finishing Plus ability allows Sora to repeat the cross-slashing finisher.
  • If Sora starts the combo on the ground, the combo will start with what is normally the second part of the combo and continue normally. This is because what is normally the first part of the combo causes Sora to descend slightly, thus he'd never be able to get off the ground if he started the same way as he starts in the air. If Sora starts the combo on the ground and has no means to ascend, such as by targeting an enemy, Sora will land and finish the combo early after his third attack. Sora's hits will knock enemies into the air, so as long as he has a means to ascend, his combo should continue with no issue. If the environment has differing parts of elevation, Sora many hit the ground and cut the combo short.


Magic is powered up through the ability Master Magic. Cure magic is unaffected, but the rest of magic is changed.

  • Fire: Six large fireballs surround Sora as he's propelled forward. Size depends on the level of Fire.
  • Blizzard: Six ice crystals are shot in a shotgun blast as Sora is propelled forward, then flipped halfway backwards as the crystals are shot out. Size depends on the level of Blizzard.
  • Thunder: Four large bolts of lightning rain down as Sora bounces clockwise around the target. Size depends on the level of Thunder.
  • Magnet: Same as normal Magnet, but it lasts twice as long. Size depends on the level of Magnet.
  • Reflect: Same as normal Reflect, but Sora is propelled slightly forward. Size depends on the level of Reflect.

Using this Drive Form costs 4 Drive Gauges and the use of Donald and Goofy until Sora has reverted back to his original form. If a party member is unconscious or there aren't two party members in the party, Master Form will be unusable--with the exception of the Cerberus Cup, Cerberus Paradox Cup, and rounds 31-40 of the Hades Paradox Cup. With no Guard ability, blocking is limited to Reflect magic. However, Aerial Dodge can deflect certain attacks such as Xigbar's bullets and Marluxia's scythe. Like all other Drive Forms, Master Form's abilities cannot be unequipped, all action and movement abilities do not carry over to Master Form. Sora gains 1 point toward Antiform every time he transforms into Master Form, and his points restart at 0 when Master Form is first obtained.

Leveling[edit | edit source]

Each small drive orb gives 1 point of experience, and one big drive orb gives 3 points of experience for each drive prize obtained in master form. This means enemies and objects that drop a lot of drive orbs such as Assault Riders and carts are best for leveling.

In Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, Drive Converter allows Munny to be converted into drive orbs. So enemies that drop a lot of Munny, such as Gamblers, are also good for leveling Master Form.

Grinding Strategies[edit | edit source]

Just after you unlock Master Form, the best place to go is in Land of Dragons. Land in the Bamboo Grove and make your way to the Encampment, where three Assault Riders, which drop drive orbs, can be found. After defeating the Assault Riders, head to the Checkpoint and use fire on the rickshaws, filled with more drive orbs. In Kingdom Hearts II, these can respawn as soon as you leave the room, so exiting and reentering the room to keep destroying the carts is an optimal strategy. In Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, the carts only reappear once Sora leaves the Land of Dragons, so as Master Form levels up, keep heading up the mountain until the Sora's Drive Gauge is close to depleted. Depending on how much of the Drive Gauge is left, it's recommended to use either the Save Point in the Village or back in the Bamboo Grove to exit to the world map and completely refill Sora's Drive Gauge.

Using the Merry-go-Round in Candy Cane Lane to damage the Toy Soldiers and Trick Ghosts is also a good method for leveling Master Form.

Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix has an additional strategy using the Drive Converter ability and the Sweet Memories Keyblade. By going to the Moon Chamber in Twilight Town, Gambler Nobodies can be taken advantage of with their large amount of Drive Orbs from the Begin Game and Stop Dice Reaction Commands. While the plentiful amount of Drive Orbs should be enough to keep Sora leveled, the Save Point in the Sorcerer's Loft is close by to keep the Drive Gauge from being depleted. Using the Computer Room Save Point, the Gamblers in the Dining Room can be dispatched with the same method.

Recommended Equipment[edit | edit source]

  • In Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, Sweet Memories converts Munny into drive orbs, which can help keep Sora in Master Form longer, and help level Master Form.
  • Oathkeeper with its ability Form Boost helps keep Master Form active longer.
  • Hero's Crest does more damage with increasingly longer aerial combos.

In Kingdom Hearts II, Genie can mimic Sora's Master Form. In his Master Form, Genie gains a white turban with an orange gem with a silver outline, beneath a red-yellow gradient feather on the front. Below the gem is a black headband with yellow borders. His golden shackles loosen a bit, turn yellow, and gain white, buttoned straps at both the top and bottom of the shackle. The shackle is tied by two red, crossed laces. Genie also dons a yellow jacket with short, black, puffy, sleeves. The jacket has two black straps that cross in the middle. These are connected by red buttons with silver arrow-shaped boarders that point along the straps. The beginning of Genie's tail also dons a black, puffy sleeve that matches the ones on his arms. The end of his tail turns into a Keyblade-like weapon, which has a fading gradient from Genie's yellow tail to a bright gold toward the teeth of the Keyblade. The Keyblade is a long cylinder with a swirly-shaped hilt, brown handle, and teeth in the shape of the magic lamp.

When in Master Form, Genie can use an ability called "Final Arcana". Selecting "Arcana" in the menu causes Genie to grab Sora's legs to swing him around while Sora dual wields with Genie's Keyblade tail. Using the "Bash" reaction command lets Genie turn into his head, spinning around while Sora shoots magic bullets from his Keyblade all within Genie's mouth. Genie gains the ability to transform into Master Form as soon as Sora does.
