Luxu, also known as Xigbar and Braig, is an apprentice to the Master of Masters, No. II in the original Organization XIII, and a member of the Real Organization XIII. His true motives and plans are unknown.

Story[edit | edit source]

Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover[edit | edit source]

Luxu is a Keyblade wielder and apprentice under the Master of Masters. Before the Master mysteriously disappears, he tasks Luxu with both his Keyblade, which Luxu mistakenly names No Name, and a Black box. The Keyblade, which the Master claims has his eye in it, is to be passed down to a worthy successor, and that person to another worthy successor, perpetually, allowing the Master to see the future and write the Book of Prophecies. To avoid any temporal paradoxes, the Master explains that Luxu will not receive a copy of the book. The box must remain with Luxu always, and must not be opened. However, at Luxu’s insistence, the Master whispers to him the box’s contents, explaining that he will soon understand why. Finally, Luxu is told to avoid the coming conflict. Once he receives his role, Luxu watches his fellow Keyblade wielders from afar. After the Master inexplicably disappears, Luxu does as well.

Kingdom Hearts χ[edit | edit source]

Trying to avoid the impending Keyblade War, Ava seeks out Luxu, hoping that he might know the location of the Master of Masters. When she finds him in Daybreak Town, she interrogates him, but Luxu explains that the Keyblade War is inevitable. Then, he explains the truth about the traitor, claiming that the Lost Page is a prophecy not in the Book of Prophecies, and that he is to live past the Keyblade War. Ava accuses Luxu of taking advantage of the Master’s will, and attacks him with her Keyblade. The clash of their Keyblades sends a shockwave through Daybreak Town, causing the clock tower bell to toll, signaling the end.

Kingdom Hearts Union χ[edit | edit source]

Luxu chooses one of the new Union Leaders to pass on his Keyblade to. However, he soon realizes that one of the Union Leaders is a fraud, and wonders if this is part of the Master of Masters’ plan.

Between Kingdom Hearts Union χ and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep[edit | edit source]

Luxu, presumably as part of his role, takes on various forms and identities in the years following the Keyblade War. He then regularly observes those who wield No Name. A long time after the Keyblade War, he takes on the identity of Braig, and becomes an apprentice to Ansem the Wise.

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep[edit | edit source]

Having seen that Master Xehanort, who has inherited the Gazing Eye, plans to reenact the Keyblade War, Braig seeks to get close to him, masquerading as one who desires the Keyblade for himself. He encounters Xehanort in Radiant Garden, and plots with him to awaken the darkness in Terra’s heart. To do so, Braig ties up Master Xehanort and taunts Terra, telling him that if he doesn’t fight him, Braig will kill Xehanort. Terra fights Braig, and at the behest of Xehanort, releases the darkness in his heart to defeat him. As a result, however, Terra strikes Braig in his right eye, causing him to lose his sight in that eye. After Terra leaves, Braig complains that he didn't sign up to be collateral damage, but backs down when Xehanort threatens to attack him with the Keyblade.

Later, at the Keyblade Graveyard, Braig attacks Aqua to distract her while both Ventus and Vanitas, and Master Xehanort and Terra, fought. He distracts her long enough for Ventus and Vanitas to merge together, after which he leaves the scene.

After Aqua fights Terra-Xehanort and sacrifices herself to save Terra, Braig leads Ansem the Wise and Dilan to the square in Radiant Garden, where he finds Terra-Xehanort, now going by the name "Xehanort." While he picks up the now-amnesiac young man, he has Dilan pick up Aqua's armor, which had been left behind.

Between Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days[edit | edit source]

Braig works with Xehanort, now an apprentice to Ansem the Wise, on his experiments on the heart, having confirmed that Terra's heart is not responding. However, when Ansem the Wise finds out about the experiments, he immediately puts an end to them and releases all of Xehanort's subjects. During that release, Braig takes a young girl known only as Subject X, but leaves Xehanort to believe it was Ansem the Wise who had taken her.

One year after having rescued Xehanort, Braig walks in to the computer room in Radiant Garden's castle to find the Xehanort had released the hearts of all the other apprentices. Confused, Braig asks if Xehanort had regained his memories, or had never lost them, before Xehanort impales him with the Keyblade, releasing his heart, and begins to take the name of "Ansem".

Xehanort's fellow apprentices thus become Heartless and Nobodies, with Xehanort splitting into both the Heartless Ansem and the Nobody Xemnas, and Braig becomes the Nobody Xigbar, the second-ranking member in Xemnas's newly-founded Organization XIII. The Organization continues its experiments and begins to recruit new members. At some point during the following nine years, Xigbar corners Zexion and asks him about the Chamber of Repose and the Chamber of Waking. When Zexion tries to push back on Xigbar's prodding by urging him to recruit new members, Xigbar notes that he had found the Organization's eleventh member, Marluxia, just the previous day, before continuing his conversation about Xemnas's goals in Castle Oblivion.

Kingdom Hearts II[edit | edit source]

Xigbar is the first member of the Organization to confront Sora in Hollow Bastion after Sora's awakening, where he taunts them before summoning various Heartless.

Kingdom Hearts Re:coded[edit | edit source]

Sometime after Xigbar's defeat, he awakens in Radiant Garden, where he finds Young Xehanort. Now the re-completed Braig, he asks what Xehanort's plans actually are, suggesting that Xehanort's younger self doesn't know either, before deciding it all to be related to the Keyblade War.

Afterwards, both he and Isa become Nobodies again and join the Real Organization XIII.

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance[edit | edit source]

Once again a Nobody, Xigbar greets Sora when he arrives in The World That Never Was towards the end of his Mark of Mastery Exam. He reveals to Sora that the Organization had hijacked the exam from the beginning and had been watching him and Riku ever since. He then forces Sora into another sleep, plunging him deeper into darkness.

Kingdom Hearts III[edit | edit source]

After Hercules escapes death in Olympus while rescuing townspeople, Xigbar appears to Sora, Donald, Goofy. While the trio and Hercules glare him down with open hostility, Xigbar admonishes their desire to put others first. Hercules pushes back by recanting his previous rescue of Meg, but Xigbar brushes this off as something only possible because of Hercules' "friends in high places". Sora snaps back by praising Hercules's courage, but Xigbar simply replies that he doesn't admire people who sacrifice themselves at the risk of later needing saving themselves. Predicting Sora's thoughts, Xigbar goes on to dismiss the idea of strength through connecting hearts, insisting that putting too much power in one place will lead to those hearts breaking. Despite this, he encourages Sora to find the hearts joined to his. When Sora is unreceptive to taking his advice, Xigbar stays confident and explains that he knows Sora will end up doing what he expects and will find his reward in the end. With this final strange comment, Xigbar leaves just as suddenly as he had arrived.[1]

Following a lead from Hades, Maleficent and Pete have dug up the ground in Thebes' Gardens in search of a black box. Pete questions whether the box--which supposedly contains the Book of Prophecies--really exists, but the conversation is dropped when he finds something in the ground: the Pandora's Box Hades told them about. Upon inspection, Maleficent tells Pete to leave it behind, knowing it is not the box they need. Disappointed, the pair leave Olympus. Xigbar is revealed to be standing on a rooftop some distance away, having been watching the pair the whole time.[2]

Later, in Twilight Town, he meets up with Ansem and Xemnas and questions their tactic of blatantly guiding Sora along their plan, reminding them that Sora in the past had still ruined their goals even with the Organization's guidance and noting that eliminating Sora would leave them one vessel short.[3]

Xigbar faces Sora and the other guardians of light in the Keyblade Graveyard after Sora defeats the Demon Tide. There, Xigbar claims they still have to prove themselves to Xehanort before leaving the Riku Replica to challenge them. Later, Xigbar and the Riku Replica fight against Riku in the Skein of Severance. Sora soon joins the fight, and together, he and Riku defeat Xigbar once more. As he begins to fade away, Xigbar complains that the result would be different if he had a Keyblade, revealing that Xehanort had promised to bequeath him his. Xigbar than warps away to the top of one of the walls, where he stumbles backwards and falls.

Sometime after Xehanort's defeat, Xigbar finds Xehanort's Keyblade, the Gazing Eye, in the ground in the Keyblade Graveyard. As he pulls it out and reclaims it, Ira, Aced, Invi, and Gula appear and join him. When they identify him as Luxu, he explains that he had been going through many semblances and identities through the years, but that it was still him, now going by Xigbar. He also explains that he had finally fulfilled his role given him by the Master of Masters, while also noting Ava's absence. With the Black Box right behind him, Luxu begins to explain his role.
