Kingdom Hearts II[edit | edit source]

Sora, Donald, and Goofy arrive in The Land of Dragons and find their friend, Mushu, helping prepare a young woman named Mulan. They explain that Mulan is pretending to be a boy named Ping so that she can join the imperial army. Mushu and Mulan ask Sora, Donald, and Goofy to join them to make it easier for her to blend in, and together they join the army in the encampment. The group convinces Captain Li Shang to allow them to join, and they prove themselves to him.

As part of the army, the group climbs the mountain. After helping clear the path to a mountain-side village, the group follows Mushu, who claims that he’s found the Hun leader, Shan-Yu, in a cave outside the village. However, it proves to be a trap that ties Mulan and Sora in the cave fighting the Heartless while Shan-Yu attacks and destroys the village outside. Taking blame for the attack, Sora, Mulan, and the others decide to chase after Shan-Yu up to the summit.

At the summit, they find him and an army of Heartless, who begin to attack. Mulan uses a rocket to cause an avalanche, seemingly defeating Shan-Yu and saving the captain’s life. However, Mushu accidentally exposes Mulan’s true identity and gender, causing Li Shang to kick Sora, Donald, Goofy, and Mulan out of the army. When Mulan discovers that Shan-Yu is still alive, however, she decides to return to the imperial city and warn the captain, and Sora, Donald, and Goofy tag along.

The captain refuses to believe Mulan initially, but realizes he’s wrong when he spots Hayabusa fly soar above the palace. Li Shang escorts the Emperor inside the palace and closes the gates while Sora, Donald, Goofy, and Mulan fight Shan-Yu, hindering his attack on the Emperor and ultimately defeating him. In gratitude for her bravery, the Emperor presents Mulan with Shan-Yu’s sword, and the sword reveals itself to be a gateway to the next world.

After the Battle of Hollow Bastion, Sora, Donald, and Goofy return to The Land of Dragons and find Mulan chasing a man in a black coat. They chase the man to the summit, where they fight a swarm of Heartless and the mysterious man. After fighting him alone, Sora believes that the man is Riku, but is confused, and the man escapes. The group decides to continue getting rid of the Heartless in the area, and in that moment, the giant Storm Rider Heartless flies down the mountain toward the imperial city.

Sora, Donald, Goofy, and Mulan race down the mountain to the palace and find everything is fine. They sneak into the locked palace through a window and find a man in a black coat at the door to the throne room. Believing it to be the same man from the mountain, Sora asks if it’s Riku, only for the man to remove his hood and reveal himself as Xigbar. Xigbar summons Nobodies to attack Sora and company while he escapes. After defeating the Nobodies, the group go into the throne room, where they learn from the Emperor that a black-hooded man had told them of the impending Heartless attack. The Emperor identified the hooded man as the same one that had been seen on the mountain, and after calling him rude, Sora identifies the hooded man as Riku. Just then, the group hears the Storm Rider outside the palace and rush out to defeat it.

When they return to the palace, the Emperor offers to reward the team. Sora asks of the Emperor only to know what the man in the coat told him, and the Emperor explains that he believes the hooded man had arrived to warn him that someone of evil intent had awoken a dragon, turning it into the Storm Rider Heartless. Before he could alert his troops, however, the Emperor learned from the hooded man that the situation had changed, explaining that three “wise guys” had arrived and would take care of the situation. Sora determines that the hooded man was in fact Riku, but Goofy and Donald wonder why Riku would be working with Organization XIII. Mulan, on the other hand, asks for a vacation for Captain Li Shang, a request the Emperor refuses. Instead, however, the Emperor offers Mulan an opportunity to serve alongside the captain in protecting him, which Mulan accepts.
